Yala Peak is a non-technical trekking peak located in the beautiful Langtang Valley, north of Kathmandu and near the border with Tibet. It’s one of the most accessible and least technical peaks in Nepal, making it ideal for beginner climbers or trekkers who want to experience a Himalayan summit without the challenges of a technical ascent.
Climb Description
Approach Trek (Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa):
The adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi.
From there, a trek through lush forests, traditional Tamang villages, and alpine landscapes leads to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m), a beautiful Buddhist monastery village that serves as the base for acclimatization and final preparations.
Acclimatization:
Acclimatization hikes are often done to Tserko Ri (4,984m) or around Kyanjin Gompa to adjust to the altitude and enjoy panoramic views of the Langtang range.
Base Camp to Summit:
Yala Peak Base Camp is set at around 4,800m.
Summit day involves an early start, ascending mostly over snow and rock with the possible use of crampons and an ice axe depending on the season. Ropes are usually not required unless conditions are icy.
The summit rewards climbers with sweeping views of Shishapangma (8,027m) in Tibet, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and other Himalayan peaks.
Descent and Return:
After the summit, climbers return to Kyanjin Gompa and retrace their steps back to Syabrubesi before driving to Kathmandu.
Who Is It For
Perfect for first-time climbers or trekkers wanting to add a summit experience.
Requires good physical fitness and some prior trekking experience.
No previous mountaineering experience is needed, though basic training with the use of ice axe and crampons is helpful and often provided by guides.

Challenges & Considerations
Altitude: Risk of altitude sickness; proper acclimatization is essential.
